Crop Circle in the Snow

Here is the dressage arena in last week's snow. The sandy surface was not frozen under the snow, so two circles were cleared for exercising the horses. You can see the smaller of the two, and just part of the larger one curving in front. They were linked, and the smaller one became a turning circle!

I am assuming that human hands cleared the rather beautiful geometric shapes, completed by that little circle right in the middle. Or perhaps aliens who hadn't quite grasped the concept of Earth's seasons took the opportunity to practice their circles.

A Travelling Snowman.

Here is a rather wistful snowman on top of a car in Hay on Wye yesterday.

I think snowmen are probably always conscious of the brevity of their lives, but this one has more than just the thaw to think about.

Papageno. Papagena. Romance.

Here is a short film, about Papageno and his search for love.
I am not sure I have downloaded it correctly, so here's the link if not.
It's the first of  a series, made with Peter Reynolds, who is actually a rather serious composer - ha!

Letterpress. Letters. Love.

I have been sorting through a container of large metal letterpress letters, arranging them on a slate table mat.

I love the edible and textured look of them in the low light.

There isn't a full alphabet, but quite a number of letters with an upper and lower case.

Shakespeare. Calphurnia. Dreams of Doom.

Here is Caesar's wife Calphurnia, awaking from dreams where she foresees Caesar's death in Act III.

DO NOT GO FORTH TODAY, she says, but he goes forth and - well you know what happens. Perhaps going forth after a Dream of Doom isn't a good idea.

Lohengrin. Transport. New Year.

Lohengrin considers his transport options.

Let's hope we all find ourselves on the
right track in 2013.

Happy New Year!
