haiku. linocut. then & now
then & now
reaching out for - for -
plodding through present moments,
now turning to then
My ampersand obsession continues to grow. Here is a linocut, which, with lots of its friends, I will be taking to the Fair at the Diffusion Festival Publishing Weekend in Cardiff on 25 & 26th May.

Very exciting.
I am particularly fond of the headscarf.

Found Alphabet No 4 - the letter V
The fourth in my Found Alphabet series, a rather slim and understated forked twig, graceful on the pavement.
I found the first one, the letter A, on March 29th 2012. This is a slow process.
Upper or lower case, I don't mind. My rule is that I cannot in any way touch or alter the letters, they have to be complete when my eyes first alight upon them.
With A, H, T, and now V under my belt, the search continues.

haiku. spring mosaic. fritillary
mosaic of spring -
each tiny piece put in place
creates the season
I know it could still snow, and there will be frosts and bad weather, but the fritillary reassures me that the spring is here. All is in place, and all will be well.

alphabet trees
seed, sapling and tree -
every season, stories grow

There is something magical about wooden type.
And how it prints.

haiku. writing on the wall, apocalypse
I was in a room where the whole wall was a whiteboard, and a haiku came to me. I like the way my name has smudged.
apocalypse
I looked round - oh no -
The writing was on the wall
What luck - a whiteboard!

Haiku, ampersand obsession
I am absolutely devoted to the ampersand, and can't stop printing, drawing and thinking about them.
I am also amassing an impressive collection of letterpress ampersands, a small selection of which are pictured here. My camera lens isn't large enough to photograph them all in one place.

haiku. cat sitting on computer
he's an anxious cat
rows of letters fill the screen
but he can't read them
I remember reading about a computer programme that could tell you if your cat had walked across your keyboard in your absence, and repair the damage it had done. All I had to do this time was delete many pages of random letters, and brush away lots of fur.

haiku. crocus. spring.
celebrating spring -
reaching to embrace the light
in sunshine at last
My garden is finally waking up. I am so glad to see the crocus and daffodils too. Soon cherry blossom.

Hamlet. A Tribute.
Here is Hamlet meeting his father's ghost, in a tribute to the new production at the RSC.
It's a collaged card, with finger puppets.
An economical way to have Hamlet in your home, so much more convenient than great big actors who would no doubt need feeding.
Hamlet and other Shalespearian finger puppet cards can be found on my website, under the For Sale menu.
